How many holes did you get? I went out with a buddy the other day and we punched quite a few with the 8" head. Its a slick setup.

25 holes did not slow down. i only need 5, but others were drilled . say batteries will drill 4000 holes before replcement. . Charges fast and wasnt even low when i got home, 10 inches of ice

4000 holes through what? I sure that all depends on your location and ice thickness...

I ended up getting the quick attach, so I can use my 6 and 8 in Fin Bor augers on the ION power head, without the need for the extension.  All I can say is I don't see my ION auger being used very much.  I would imagine if you used a Lazer auger, the outcome would the same as the Fin Bor being that they utilize the same blades.

After a buddy of mine has been using an ION for 3 years and still enjoying the hell out of it I decided to get one myself because my old Strikemaster was needing service the past 3 seasons and I was wrestling with it to the point of exhaustion at times while drilling, it was becoming so frustrating to use. On numerous occasions I used my buddy's ION and envied the ease of use and lightweight construction. It is almost perfect for my style of fishing which is to drive out to my ice shack, drill 5 holes including one of which is in my Ice shack and fish those same holes all day long.

My biggest issue that held me back from buying one earlier was the 8 inch auger. I am typically used to fishing with a 10 inch hole and not sure if I wanted to give that option up especially when the ice thickens, just me I guess but I think it may be easier to nose one up through the larger hole. Anyways for that reason when I see the option to buy the 10 inch auger I decided now was the time to go ION and pick up the 10 auger and keep my 8 inch for back up if needed.

Using the ION with the 8 inch auger is sweet.... just push the button and it cuts like a dream with no wrestling even when punching through the ice. It does seem short but like someone stated in an earlier post there is a 12 inch extension when needed and I could see me needing it in my shack as the season progresses. Now a few days ago I used the 10 inch auger for the first time. It has the chipper style blades different than the 8 inch and also is a longer auger. I had eleven inches of ice to drill through and the ION felt labored in doing it, it did punch through and didnt have any trouble catching up when it did go through. I experimented a bit and drilled 10 holes, the ION never stopped on me and I noticed if I lifted it slightly while drilling it seemed not to labor as much. You never have to put any weight on these ION's just pull the trigger and they dig in all their own, with the 10 inch I had to kinda hold it back some and then  it did a nice job in the eleven inches I had. It remains to be seen how it will handle 2 feet of ice..... I may be forced to sticking with the 8 inch hole in the end.

Time will tell but so far I am pretty happy with it using the 8inch and cautiously optimistic about the 10 inch auger. I dont miss the old Strikemaster in the least!!!
