another one bites the dust!

Let's hear it, who else completely ate it out on the slippery clear ice today??  Sent their rod and bucket flying? Hahahaha. I did!

Didn't slip but my bucket with my rods and auger fell from the dock and onto the ice. I quickly checked to see if my rods were broken and thankfully they weren't.

Friday a guy was walking past me and all I heard was this loud thud. I looked over and he fell on his back. When he walked passed me again I asked him if he was the guy that fell and he said "yes". Asked him how he was and thankfully he said he was alright.

I was on SECORD Lake March 15th standing outside my truck with creepers on and went down like a ton of bricks!! Being 6'5" and pushing 400lbs, it was not a pretty sight. It's true what they say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall. As I laid there in a crumpled heap, my buddy in my Quickfish 3 heard the commotion and felt the ice rumble.  I was down for a good 5 minutes. I crawled to the rear of the truck and climbed up onto the tailgate. Thankfully I had my boots laced up tight. I swear I broke my left ankle. I took some Motrin and kept fishing. I was very happy I drove out there. That would have been a long painful walk back. It hurt until around June!!

5 out of the 8 were wearing cleats. I have a great pair of cleats, just caught a heel and down I went! I've never been on such slippery ice like I was today. I am 20 years old so I can take a few falls but I would hate for someone to really hurt themselves on the ice

I've been using these H T creepers for 3 years now.  Light, cheap, and fit my Lacross  Burley's  like a glove. http://www.fishusa.com/product/HT-Enterprises-Sure-Grip-Safety-Treads

I use those also and have for many years. I fell a couple times with them on so I put sheet metal screws in the heels of my boots as there wasn't anything on the heel to grip. I have not fell since. If I fell todat I may have trouble getting back up ;D

Picked up a set of the HT's a few years ago because I needed some and they were the only ones in the store so I hoped I wasn't making a stupid purchase because of need.  I'm sure their are better ones made but for the price, these function just fine for me and have happy with them.

At least you guys are on some ice to even fall.  Rarely in SW Mich do we encounter clear ice without ice on it.  One time we did, I fell carrying my mora drill without a guard.  Cut through a big pair of snowmobile mittens but luckily not my skin.  Bought some creepers after that but they are real hard to get over my Mickey's.

I bought a set of Yaktrax XTR extreme cleats and love them.  First ones I've ever owned that actually stay on my boot.  A little pricey in stores, but you can find them cheaper on Ebay.  Good luck fishing guys and gals!!

got those my self and looking at k&E tackle's version they got.  they got a big grip on those and don't know how they would be?

i think these in conjunction  with the ht model would keep you put?

I had a set like the ones in the link and I used them but they are hard on your feet if you stand a lot. I went to the HT ones and they were much nicer.

i am thinking of making my own version is why i said that with sheet metal screws.  they did look high up kind of  like the old ht versions i use to use.    i  just liked the strap on them the most.. the one i use to have are like the icb-10 from this link seemed high up air on them too. "so thanks for the head up"   if i can find some point of some kind i could weld the screw on to sheet metal back wards so the points are down.  thinking like 1/8 inch plates or 1/16 of a inch plates ? with screws welded to it.. and use the same strap system?  just got to play with the design till i get it right for me.. any ways thanks for all ideas and help....

If we have no snow I use Kahtoola’s MICROspikes, if there's a little snow Yaktrax . Started fishing early this year a week before deer season having something so you aren't slipping and sliding makes it a lot better.

glad your ok!
i have seen some really nasty falls where they hit full force onto the back of the skull. not good at all.
i decided to use the ice racing screws for a few reasons, but mostly because i can put them where i want/need them on my boots so i don't have dead spots with no spike/screw that would allow a slip and fall. also, always on and doesn't hurt the suit case shanty floor and can drive with them and do driveway shoveling ect knowing i am good for not slipping.

heres a picture of how my main boots are. i could add more, maybe one more on the toe and heel, because walking while pulling heavy gear uses a lot of energy at the toe area as you push off. toe and heels are the most needed for spike/screws. i haven't found any thing that compares to the coverage i have in a pre-built slip protection system and i have tried quite a few like the micro spikes.
