The Best GPS Maps for Ontario lakes
« on: Dec 28, 2005, 07:11 PM »
Im still banging around the idea of picking up a GPS unit. The problem Im having is, I want to be sure the unit I get will be the best one for fishing in Ontario. I have been going thru some software packages and most of them cover american lakes and only touch on the odd big Ontario lake like Quite and Simcoe.

I want to be able to get as much detail as possible on my local lakes or the GPS is not really that good to me

has anybody else been snooping around, and if so what have you found?

Hey....

I picked up the Lowrance H20 a few months ago...also bought the Navionics Gold XL3 Chip, which covers all of Georgian Bay, Trent Severn Water System (with all connecting lakes ie-Simcoe, Couchiching) Ottawa River and much more...

These are Hydrographic charts with all the depths, shoals, etc...

Currently, there are no chips (that I have found) that have Hydrocharts for Ontario INLAND lakes..

There's plenty of software out there with lakes, rivers, roads, etc....but I don't find that useful, because that is what a map is for...it's the actual depths and knowing where you are that sold me! ;D ;D ;D
