Oh pulease!!!!!!!  -27 F wasn't cold enough????????????????    :%$#!:

It never got even close to that for lows at my house but I'd be happy if it did, I'd much rather that opposed to the darn January thaw any day.  Boy that'd make lots of good ice.

Ive driven through most of Minnesota (yes the East half has Trout and Trees) and I guess I should have been more specific, "Alexandria has very few trees and NO TROUT". My love of trout knows no bounds and I plan on making trips to the boundry waters next spring also going to hit the Crosby mines. Thanks for the positive posts, many doubted it was a smart move but they cant argue with the numbers. I plan on moving back to Michigan some day but gonna save for now and experience life out side the Great walls of water.

Check out this link Higgins!  http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fishing/trout_lakes/list.html  This lists all the lake's in Minnesota that have been reclaimed and have trout planted in them. You should be able to find a few place's to try that aren't too far away from you. Since you now live in Alexandria, you aren't going to be too far away from Park Rapids,MN. Go on up there and give the Straight River a try. It's not the easiest to negotiate because of the soggy bank's but there are some OMYGAWD sized brown's in there! Good luck and welcome to God's country! :thumbsup:DIRTBALL2 ;)2

Higgins north central Minnesota has a number of trout lakes.  Just fished a couple over the fourth.. When the hex hatch is usually best.  Hubbard and cass co have several lakes and Dirtball2s  suggestion of the Straight is right on.  I'll pm u a link on a article on the straight in a couple weeks when I get home. There are several native brook trout streams also in the area.

All 3 lakes you named your going to hit this year are all trophy ice fishing spots. Your never want to fish any other lake after you experience those 3 lakes. Have fun fishing them. I hit all those every year myself. Helps that my folks live next to leech as well.

Maybe check out the "EEL POUT" festival they have every year in February. Google it, it's a blast from what I remember at least lol.

Fun fact, Brock Lesner has a home in Alex.

Higgins, Whenever you have a trip planned for LOW, get in touch with me! I would be happy to provide any assistance you might need. One thing I'll warn you about in advance! If you are driving anywhere up here on Highway #11, stay strictly within the speed limit! Also the local gendarme's here in Warroad are anal about whether or not you are wearing a seat belt. Don't worry too much if you should happen to get thrown in our local drunk tank. I'll bring you a beer with a file in it! :roflmao:I have over 50 year's experience of traipsing up to the BWCA! Are you aware of the special regulation's that govern the BWCA? If you aren't, do a diligent study of them. The Nazi tree-hugger's up there have a cow if you should deviate from them in the slightest manner! Since you live in Alex now, the next time you need to get a haircut, go see my friend's Cliff and Diane Tomoson! Cliff is an award winning hair cutter and a heck of a nice guy to boot! I hope you are enjoying yourself as you meander through the pitfall's of trying to get used to Minnesota nice! It's actually true! ;DGood luck and great fishing! :thumbsup:DIRTBALL2 ;)2

There is a trout lake not far from you called Big Watab. Just a run down I-94 to Avon it has rainbows and browns.

Also, spearing on Le Homme Dieu, Mina, and Lake Osakis is really good. Just watch out for the occasional musky on Mina.
