I normally check out the site every day but I'm up to my eyeballs with summer projects so I only get on here every day or two.

Well, I'm up to my EYEBALLS too! Walleyes, that is...

Hope everyone is out enjoying summer. Wishin I could chase some Lucky Peak Kokes, sounds like they are nice this summer!

Nice eyeball Fowl!  ;)

Welcome to the dark side, in the Pacific Northwest anyway. Not much walleye love up in those parts... :-\

Were you fishing Potholes again?

Yeah, went over to potholes (Washington) again, took a 3 day trip based on reports from 2 weeks ago when they were running hard in the shallows, I think I missed the timing by a couple weeks.

Had to work hard for that fish and one other, for the whole trip.  Finally got this one bottom bouncing the main channel with a double wammy and crawler, came out of 7 FOW.

Talk about work, bottom bouncing a harness in shallow creek beds you spend more time clearing weeds then actually catching a fish.  Fun trip though, catching walleye really is one of my passions, tried vertical jigging just because I love to hook up that way but nothing, I think it'll take a month or two for the summer temps to make the eyes set up on deep humps.

All of that hard work makes that walleye dinner taste even better.  ;)

If you ever make it out to the Dakotas, give me a shout. I'll take you out in my boat and put you on all the walleyes you care to catch. (And not a single lowly trout!)

Fishing has been very good out here the entire month of June. Limits of walleyes are not hard to come by on most lakes. The limiting factor has been to sheer amount of thunderstorms lately. It's almost like everytime I put the boat in, a storm pops up within a couple hours. Frustrating.  :(

If you are fishing shallow weeds, try pitching a crankbait. Depending on the depth, suspending Husky Jerks and X-Raps, also Scatter Raps/Minnow Raps are all really tough to beat. Dragging bouncers/spinners through weeds can be a nightmare. Cast the deep weed edges, lanes, and pockets as these areas are good ambush points for weedy walleyes. You can cover water faster and find isolated pockets of feeding fish. Once you locate them, It's easier to slow down and livebait.

Oh I gave the x-raps a whirl, nothing though, I'm no good at the weed walleye fishing I can't read the water like a should I think.  I'll have to take you up on the Dakotas if I'm ever in that neck of the woods.  Going to a place with no trout would be a heck of a thing, it's been awhile lol.

Thought you boys might get a kick out of these new grips I just turned.

Bird's eye maple on the left, segmented double pattern with purpleheart and black limba on the right.

Cool stuff Fowl!

I also wish a happy 4th of July to the Idaho board. I'm going to miss sitting at my house out on the patio near Maple Grove and Lake Hazel this 4th. I had a field behind my house that allowed an unobstucted view of all the fireworks going on in Boise. It was pretty neat.

This year I'm taking the family out on the boat to watch fireworks. Should be a good time.

Stay safe fellas.

Thanks all for the kind words on the grips, I turn them for fun and put them on rods or let other people get them and demand they show me the finished product!

Watching fireworks from a boat is great especially if you're close to the boom, nothing like that boom coming from all around you in a boat, I wonder what the fish think, armageddon probably lol.

I hope everyone has a great 4th, i'll be up near the Clearwater NF in my trailer partaking in the festivities thanks to the close WA boarder and the land of the sky blue waters ;)

Be safe everyone, remember it's hard to cast without all 5 fingers.
