Last day of the season?
« on: Mar 16, 2014, 10:27 AM »
Well, today will be the last day of my ice season 2014. I will be hitting GWL later this afternoon. Leaving for St. Maarten in the AM. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

wasted a 40 mile one way ride to Pompton Lake this morning to find it mostly open, with all open shorelines.  Adios to Ice Shanty until next year!  Tom

I'm hoping for at least one more Saturday in NJ.  I was on 13"+ which was about 1/2 and 1/2 good to snow ice.  My wife is about to kill me but I fished 6 of the last ten days and hope to get out at least 3 more times.  I'll be strapping the extension ladder and plank to the truck just in case...

GWL had at least 15". Jigged about 50 white perch (most in the 8-12" range) in three hours.

Interesting!  I thought I may have closed out season last night at budd but I love catching those scrappy white perch. I am supposed to stay at my wife's sister's house in rockland county next wkend but may have to make side trip to gwl.

Pompton is usually one of the first lakes around here to lose ice. I guess there must be a slight current or something.  i  didnt go out yesterday but I saw people on Kakeout and Fayson.

I think  a lot of lakes will hve good ice thru the weekend. Heck its 18 degrees right now

That's it for me too. I have never ice fished so long in my adult life. Did a drive by on Farrington and saw nothing but shakey ice. I hope this global warming keeps coming. I hope the party boats have some room for me. I guess the cops can chase the bad guys now. They never got me.

I fished a small pond in Ringwood this afternoon, 15-18 inches of ice, caught a few crappies and sunfish. One more weekend?

A few years ago I was ice fishing into the 2nd week of March, but I was on maybe 5-6 inches of honeycomb ice. We still have a foot or more of good ice on many lakes. This weekend is probably realistic and maybe the following on certain lakes.

They had another KDC tourny at LH this past weekend and they are always cautious so you know the ice is good there. Have to get out at least one more weekend.
