fl8 issue
« on: Feb 18, 2014, 11:16 AM »
Just bought a fl8 a few wks ago. It makes the normal noise but every once in a while it'll make a almost screeching sounds (soft) and the screen will shift about a half inch for a few seconds then go back to normal.

is this a normal occurrence?

I'm not going to agree with this being a normal occurence. My fl 8 slt has never made a screeching sound or sudden shifting of readings and have never seen another one do such a thing. I'd get on the phone with Vexilar people. It sounds to me like you have a unit that will have a very short life span. Mine is over 15 years old still going strong and still steady and nearly totally silent. I don't think yours is going to make it anywhere near that long.

Then, Houston, we have a problem because 4 guys already posted that this happens and I have heard other units on the ice do the same. If this is the case, Vex is going to have a Sh!tload of returns coming there way...I can hear my fl12 from a ways away, brushes just spinning away. Then the "rpm's" jack up then go back to normal.

I may look into this a bit further, thanks for the heads up Lobes.

Every Vex I have owned or fished next to is noisy.  Nature of the beast and a sound I do not miss at all...

I have had 3 or 4 Vex units over the last 15 years. They have all done it. Never had a problem with any of them. It's normal .
