Dreading Next Week's Heatwave!
« on: Feb 12, 2014, 08:47 PM »
Checked the weather report for the next couple weeks and boy are we gonna be hit hard with some 40-50 degree weather... WITH RAIN for 3-5 days next week! Now I know that a couple of those nights will hit the mid 20s but after that it will just stay at the high 30s-high 40s mark for a couple days... hoping we keep some safe ice for a couple more weeks!!!  :'( :%$#!:

Could be ugly but do not panic.

Why, is there a cold front coming in right after, lol? Naw, I know I don't need to panic that much since there's about 11-13" of ice with 5" of snow on top, but it's the rain I'm more concerned about at the end of the heat wave.

Drilled through 18" of ice today.  I'm more than ready for some warmer temps.

musky, i am concerned about the same thing. Weldon Springs has a top like you are saying, but others that have been hitting hard water are saying it will be a sloppy mess, but ice SHOULD still be save. plus more cold coming after the heat wave.

Only thing to worry about is if the water is going to get muddy! Ice is going to be here for a while. Went thru 20 inches of ice on a pond in Mendota yesterday.

Don't worry. The heat will get rid of the snow traveling will be easier. The big plus is with heat and rain many lakes will get needed oxygen from runoff. Fish will start to turn on more. We had 26 inches of ice on McCullom Lake yesterday during our tournament.

What he said.
Draggin the flipover through 3 feet of snow is no picnic.
Don't fall in. Unless it's a big one.
