WOW! I would have never guessed there would be so many hard water guys in my area. Glad I found this site and thanks for the warm welcome ;D. Monticello FD hasn't announced the details on thier tourney this year but it was held on Sackett Lake last year in February.

Hi Guys and just a heads up to be careful out there! I fished Big Pond thursday!
Where the snow covered it was about 3" and where it was bare ice was a bit more.
I could see the ice flexing as I walked and water comming up thru the holes.
Talk about ICE BALLS!!!!
No fish to speak of but I did not venture too far off shore!
Was going to go again today but figured there might be a bunch there and I just don't trust it yet with a bunch of weight on the thin ice.
Hope it stays cold at night and the ice keeps building. A warm snap now will put us back to square one.
Hope to see you all again this year and if anyone does get out be sure to report ice conditions.
Gary

You can have this area, I will use the cabin!!!! ;D

Not much happening here for ice fishing. Most of the better lakes are private. Some of the public spots are OK depending what you want to catch. Scally critters, pan fish, pickerel and pearch are common but trout are few and far between. Think there is only five places to legally fish trout in hard water. White Lake, Lake huntington, Big and Little ponds and Mongaupe Pond. Might be a few in Orange.
Swinging Bridge is dead this year because the dam has a leak and they drained it. Superior might be OK and if you can find a good Farm pond they usually have some nice pickerel.
Mongaup falls and Rio to the best of my knowledge are off limits but others might have better info on them.
I only fish for trout and only where they are legal so I don't pay much attention to the other spots.

Welcome to the mountains and IS.

Hey "Southern Zone Fishers.  I was on some lakes here in Orange County and had 5+ inches of ice on all lakes with the only problem areas were around the inlets because of the melting we had.  The weather looks good for the forseeable future.  Going to try Chadakee Lake up by Newpaltz and see if I can slam the Crappies and Pickeral tonight.

Tim, yes a get together is needed..........soon!

Just got home from Big Pond and I consider it safe now! Solid 6" Measyred in most spots except toward the outlet and inlet streams.
Not much happening with the fish but there is almost twice as much ice today as there was on thursday.
Does not look like many fish this week end and only found a few more holes then when I left thursday.
It has been staying cold up there day and night. Never got above 21 today and it was 12 and dropping quick at 4PM. Won't be surprised if there is 8" by this week end but 6" is just fine with me. No more flexing and no more ropes to shore.

I try to avoid the crowds on the week ends and especially this week end cause I have to stand guard and make sure Santa doesn't fill my chimney with coal!  ;D

It would be nice to see the camera in action and do a grid search to see if we can find the fish! They sure were not anywhere I was today. Never had a flag and just one punny pickerel on the rod.
Bitter cold and real windy at times.
Just keep our fingers crossed we don't get a warm rain or serious warm spell and we will be good for the season.
