drill a small hole in the bottom bucket to relieve the vacuum pressure. or put a block in the bottom bucket so it doesn't stack in completely tight.

Drilling a hole kinda defeats the purpose dear lizza.  Let them completely dry before stacking. Stacking wet buckets assures you of a fight.   Wet frozen buckets will send you Lowes to buy new ones. Lol.   If wet and frozen.  Stick in a hot shower.  Sometimes they will practically pop apart.  I do however like the block in the bucket idea.

I go to Walmart and pick up some of those cheap swimming noodles the kids use and put chunks of those in between the buckets just enough to keep them from getting tight together if they do get stuck I just use my air nozzle (air hose )and blow them apart.

A lighter route would be insulation panels or some type of styrofoam

Cut a strip of cardboard about the size of a ruler and fold it over the top of the bottom bucket before you stack them

this and the blocks make the most sense. putting holes in the bottom of the bucket? won't it leak when you put the shiners in it?

Just pull the dang things apart already!

I hold the bottom bucket between my boots, and pull the top one up with both hands...

They have never fixed this issue in the entire history of buckets because God already gave us the solution...

Many great ideas.   How come we still keep stacking buckets together without thought.  One of the better discussions worth getting into for a while!

I have a double bucket I use for bait. The 5 gallon Bottom Bucket for Shiners and the short Joint Compound Bucket for crappie minnows. And a Plastic Bucket Seat for a lid. I sometimes sit on it but it's mostly to keep water in during transport. They NEVER stick together even after sitting on the top bucket for an hour. They must be sized just right. I also had some buckets once for emptying fish tanks that had the ridges on the outside placed just right so they would nest well but not all the way down. They also never stuck together. Others, not properly sized can be nearly impossible to separate. May find two buckets of slightly different sizes. And use the slightly smaller inside the larger.

Cut a strip of cardboard about the size of a ruler and fold it over the top of the bottom bucket before you stack them

This works, I use the wax corrugate from fruits and veggies.

I use Bobber bills method. However, the rope and cardboard method sounds good

hang a piece of rope down the side of the bucket

This is a great idea. Could tie the other end to the handle and always have them with.

Just don't put them together.  I keep them all separate and let them dry out.  I usually have tip ups in one and fish in the other.

If they are completely dry when you put them together they shouldn't get stuck

If your trying to get them apart, just use an air compressor at the rim. Blow air under it for each bucket to loosen it. I've also heard using air under dear skin will make skinning easy tho i have'nt try'ed it .
