Hi all, Every year for the last 8 years me and my buddy have fished a week long paradise on Lake Champlain and lake carmi, but now my buddy has moved from Vermont to NY and we don't have a way to figure out the ice thickness please help. I Have 2.5 to 3 feet of ice here in NY and I have my week long fishing trip coming up and need to know If i need to get an auger extension or not.  I'm sure its safe to drive a truck out on, i have a 71 elan I take out but I just want to know what we'll be drilling through, been a great year so far, my buddy pulled in a 8 3/4lb pike last weekend :-), can't wait to be fishing the bigger lake again with the bigger fish, I love Champlain  :-). I tried searching for current conditions but didn't see any, sorry if this thread is a repeat
Its all fun and games until someone loses a walleye.......

If ur fishing from a shack you will need an extension... If just fishing a pop up u should b fine without, but will be doing a lot of bending... My jiffy pro 4 broke through on bare ice 3-5 inches from power head, but with the wind the snow will turn to ice and add another 2-3 inches I'm sure
