With the rain and warm temps I'm not settn' foot on southern maine ice.............bring plenty of rope!

I was hoping to get out to Sabattus Tues. or Wed., but with the rain and warmth I don't know!  Anybody have current info?

There was 6" of solid, black ice on a 12 acre pond I fished with my son on 12/24 west of Augusta.  That kind of ice is real durable and won't be a problem.  I'd be real careful venturing out on any water that you haven't checked yet this year.  I'm wondering how the ice will be for opening day on the bigger lakes like Maranacook.  Based on the forecast, it may not be ready.

Well i ventured out onto my opening day pond today, and nearly froze to death. The wind was howling at about 30+ miles per hour down off the mountain and pushing me down the lake. I had to run back to the truck it was so cold. The snow was completely gone off the ice and nothing but slush and water on top of the ice. For as cold as it seemed out there i think we will be ok for opening day. I drilled a hole with the ol Jiffy and there was around 3-4 inches of solid ice. I decided to stay close to the shoreline as i found one open hole. Well lets pray for cold weather this week and NO snow to foul it up.

the way this weather is going  we is going to be the best day anybody that wants to go let me know at least we can check out the ice
