Lx5 Issue!
« on: Jan 04, 2014, 05:10 PM »
Today i was having some issues with my lx5, the bottom mark was moving up and down slightly?

All of a sudden my unit makes several beeps and the screen is just a solid red ring... I was told try and unplug the battery and cords which i did but when i turn it on still just a solid red ring?

I can get it on demo mode but thats it, other then that just the red ring

Was planning on hitting the ice tomorrow but wont be able to with the current situation, marcum is closed until mondays.

Any ideas?

Could be your transducer. Can you borrow one to find out if that is what it is? Make sure all your connections are fine.
It must be something in the water.

Just got my 3 back from service ,,, the screen was jumping about 3-4 ft .
Though it was battery , transducer switched out both with new spares .
Called marcum they( mike ) said it was a bad motor ...send it in .

My brother in-law had problems with his new lx-5 last year doing the same thing. Marcum replaced the motor and it was fixed. Try connections and another transducer first liked previous posts suggested. Sorry if its bad news. Hope it helps.

They apparently had a bad batch of motors. They need to fix these units ASAP for customers, a lot of people ticked off paying 500.00 for a new unit that craps out on you in short order....

You will have these problems with all things manufactured. Mine has well over a thousand hours and has been good to me. Had ducer go bad but that was my falt.  Feel off sled at high speed. Had great service.

Why is Marcum having so many problems with all their products? Last year it was the 7's. The showdowns were having troubles before that. And now the 5's. Think they may be trying to get a head of the technologies before they perfect them or what?

My guess? The same problem that clam has... Products from china. The older marcums have almost no issues. New ones having tons of issues. Just like clam.

Update

I got a brand new flasher in the mail just a few days after i called their customer service, the unit seemed to be in perfect order so i returned the broken one to them. I had the new flasher out maybe 2-3 times and surely enough, the flashers bottom mark started moving again... Luckily this time i was able to fish for the whole weekend with it, but i had to place another call to marcum today. They will be sending me another unit that is apparently working perfectly. Very frusterating dealing with issues like this, i love the machine but if the next one i get has the same problem ill have to think hard about what to do.

my lx5 is not new, its 6 or 7 years old now.

I've had that shift in depth almost since day one.  It sounds like a power surge.

recently my transducer went to pot.   I called Marcum today actually (talked to Mike) and he 'didn't know anything about the issue' which I find hard to believe.   Either way they weren't going to address it.  More importantly I was hoping to find an answer to KEEP it from happening with the new transducer.

If the flashers still fluctuating depth at the end of the winter I'll send it back and have them check the motor (again, the first time they said it was fine).
