After an 8 hour rain and wind fest yesterday.. I figured, what can I do today to top that??
I know!! Get up at 2am and head out to Bartons Cove with Stripernut and battle the 40mph gusts there!!
So thats what we did.
We hit the ice at 4am. We set up in the smaller inner cove. It was windy but not cold.. As for ice..I was shocked, had to be at least 10-12inches. Sure glad I brought the Ion lol
I set up my 4 tilts with large bait targeting pike, Allan started off with Medium bait targeting Walleye/Pike/Bass.
Allan quickly got a nice looking crappie, and then the jig fest was on. Each jigging up countless crappie and blue gills.
We had the ice to ourselves till about 7 or 8 and that inner cove filled up. After answering a few questions and a demo of my "new fangled auger" I was back to jigging.
My tilts remained silent for the day, and Allan managed a small bass on one of his.
The surprise of the day for me came from this HUGE blue gill on a Chubby Darter. Probably be biggest i have ever seen. Was bigger than my hand and in the pic below hes next to my size 11 boot.
After a slow 8hrs we were back in the cars by noon. No toothy beasties for me today.. But theres always next time.
