Hawk eye spears
« on: Jan 04, 2014, 08:48 PM »
Hello,
I am new on this site. Looks like a lot of great people who also love to spear.
I recently lost my pike spear off the roof of my car. So now I am using my whitefish spear till I can get a new pike spear. I wish I could afford a blackhawk spear but that will have to wait. Does anyone have any experience with the replaceable tip Hawkey spears?

sorry to hear you lost your spear, I've seen them online but don't know anyone that has one.

Thanks. I just need to find something and I don't think I will find another one for a dollor at a garage sale like that one. Lol.
Plus the replaceable tips seem to make a lot of scence, concitering that I am using my whitefish spear that has seen better days, because my brother thought it would be a good idea to take it sucker spearing ant repeatedly through it into rocks. Oh well.  Lol.
Hopefully someone knows something about them, because sometimes things that are a great idea in theory aren't always so great it practice.
Thanks again

I've pretty much used the same spear design for the last 25+ years, so I really don't know what I would be looking for in a good spear.

I have been spearing on and off for quite a while now. Just wish I had more time to do it. I found a pick from last year, but don't know how to post it.

I can't get ahold of hawkeye spears. Does anyone know how to get ahold of them, or have any other suggestions for a high quality spear without breaking the bank?

Thanks, they are beautiful looking spears, but I keep hearing bad things about laser cut spears. I don't have much experience with different spear designs but I am trying to do my homework. The only 2 spears I have bought to this point were $35 and $1.  ;D

The Laser cut spears that get bad reviews are the ones with a thick web area that the tines are attached to.
This causes the spear to "plane" thru the water when thrown. (example: look at the Bear Creek design)
Shallow water shots are no problem with that kind of spear, (Bear Creek) but the deeper you go...the worse they plane.
Ask for reviews on the darkhouse gear spears. Lots of guys have started out with this spear, then upgraded, but still use this design as a backup.

As far as getting $1 & $35 spears....you were pretty fortunate.
There's a reason for the old saying...."You get what you pay for."   Still hold true. IMHO
 Good Luck in your search.

I know I was fortunate. It probably didn't come across in the post but I was being sarcastic and in no way expect to find deals like that again.
