Jiffy model 30 leaking gas
« on: Jan 01, 2014, 08:01 PM »
Ran the auger this morning with no issues, drilled our first 10 holes and fished for a while. A little while after we could smell gas and I realized there was gas coming out around the carb area. Could a seal in the carb area have cracked from the cold this morning? It's probably 4-5 years old. I had to move it to outdoor storage because standing it up in the basement the gas was coming out again. It's not pouring out or anything, but it's a constant slow leak.

Thanks in advance

Might be a priming bulb, or one of the plastic fuel hoses that get cracked from storing them in sheds and garages (heat in the summer) Plastic ages faster in hot conditions and sunlight. If you aren't mechanically inclined go to small engine place and they will fix it but that might be expensive. Online tech manuals have exploded views of what lurks beneath the shrouding and it isn't very complicated.
They were biting great out here an hour ago but........

I am going to assume its their new engine design and not the Tecumseh...the Ethanol has a time effect issue that is becoming very common,...the rubber grommet in the gas tank is deteriorating and hoses are shrinking. So either you replace the gas tank which comes complete with the gas lines , grommet, gas cap, and new fuel filter or bring/send the tank to me and have the grommet replaced. when I refurbish the tanks I use fuel lines that are greater than 10% ethanol rated. Just started doing this so I don't have long term test results, I do feel this fix will be better than what's being put out by Jiffy/Eskimo. This is not a grommet that Jiffy offers, they will not sell just the grommet. And there is the possibility thats it is your primer bulb, that is an easy fix.~  Marcel
