« on: Dec 27, 2013, 06:06 AM »
I'm in the market for a power auger, 8" .Price is no problem . Quality and durability is what I'm looking for. Made in the U.S.A. is also. Any suggestions are appreciated! :)

Pro4 would be my suggestion.  As long as you don't mind a little weight.  They are heavy, but start and run real nice.  Cut well too.

What you need my friend is an Ice Gator!!!  The new lithium ion is awesome.  I bored 80+ holes in 8" of ice last weekend and didn't even phase them batteries.  As a matter of fact it only took 15 minutes of charging when I got home.  I will NEVER own another gas auger, the Gator has me hooked!!!

Pro 4 from jiffy, propane does not spill, starts on first pull, drills about 150-160-holes in 10" of ice on 1 can of propane.

Best for quality and durability is the Tanaka motors, match it with a Nils auger and you have a sweet ice eating light weight reliable machine... but they are not USA made although will last you a lifetime, and a 7 year warrenty...Mine costs me about $4 a year to run on gas/oil, spare blades are expensive up front but they are able to be resharpened and last 3-5 years before needing sharpened, maybe more depending on amout of use....2 heads will last you a lifetime also so only a 1 time investment on heads and reshapening runs $20 plus shipping costs to MN, the guy who resharpens them will return them better than new...
