Whooooaaaa.....

Sure, you can spend up to a couple hundred bucks for a motorized titanium-tipped, high-tech, machined wonder-gizmo that will chop holes in the ice until the cows come home.

Or you can scrounge some parts and pieces from your local scrap yard and come up with something that will probably work just as well.

All you need is an iron bar about 5 feet long, sharpened to a point on one end. Or if you have a small welder or know someone who does, weld a wedge to the end of the bar with one end ground to a chisel point.

Another good thought is to tie a stout rope to a hole drilled in the other end of the bar. Tie the other end of the rope to your waist and you won’t accidentally send your custom-built spud to the bottom of the lake.

So who knew you don't need to know anything whatsoever about something to write a news paper article. And have it printed, no less.

I would like to see them make a hole through 12 inches of ice with a spud bar. You wouldn't feel like fishing when you get done.
Keep your stick on the ice we are all in this together.

When I was younger my dad made our spuds. When we started every morning we would have to spud a 2' by 4' hole to spear from. Home made spears and spuds.
