If past experience counts for anything,I've found that if your just getting into the sport you should keep it simple and get good with your presentation before you delve into the many, many types of ice lures and the actions each one has. I would suggest purchasing a few jigs like the teardrop in a few basic colors and weights and maybe a rocker minnow or two. Don't forget live bait as its sometimes as good if not a whole lot better than just a jig by itself. By tipping your jigs with a little something sweet you will increase your catches dramatically..Slabhapp y56
Having been away from ice fishing for a number of years, I now have the time to enjoy one of my favorite pastimes. I have enjoyed reading the posts from long time members and to read how you all help one another with no animosity between you.I am looking forward to chatting with you all...slabhappy.

There is only 4 lures you need for panfish.lol. The small ratso in glow or white. A small nickle swedish pimple with only the red flake for deep water. The smallest panfish assasin in say green on a coorelating sized jighead and the smallest jigging Rapala in silver or Gold. All these are tipped with a waxworm. And any teardrop icejig to tip with a minnow for crappie or trout. All tried and tested winners. Its ice fishing if hey are hitting they will hit one of these. No need to complicate things.

What about Swedish pimple with minnow? Last year I had a lot of bites but never caught anything I have a friend who swears by them but I have been unsuccessful with them to say the least. Any thoughts?

Swedish pimple with the head of a minnow or a perch eye is great for perch.

The smallest rapalas you can find with a wax worn or fathead will catch anything that swims
