The 2 ponds behind my house are both froze completely today. With the low temps at night this week I might even be able to get on them !!!  :o

sgtski, call Hermann's Low Life Bar and Grill (1-847-639-9644) to find out ice conditions. My good friend Wayne owns the bar. He charges $5 to park your car. He's got great food if needed. Maybe if you're nice, Marcy will put you on her text message list. Got a text today that ice is not safe yet. 3 feet deep in the channel by the bar.

Heard people were fishing the channel this morning. Catching small gills. Don't know the ice thickness.

Most guys hit those T Channel areas early and chance going through the ice to catch some 5" dink gills. I have the itch to get out on the ice just like everyone else but safety is more of a concern to me, fishing there is pretty much a waste of time IMO ....

Ultra guy, hit the nail on the head. Winner winner chicken dinner. Can't agree more! You can have that piece of water. I'll drive over the border any day of the week to fish.

I don't know if it got done this year or not but I fish bass tourneys on the chain in the summer and I know the water way agency was talking about dredging out them channels in there so be careful! the old 2 foot deep channel may be 3-4 feet deep this year if they did dredge it I just don't want to see someone think it is only 2 foot deep and fall threw this early ice into unexpected 3-4 feet of water
early mornings,cold north winds,hard ice,good friends and cold high life..FLAG UP!.priceless

Drove around Nielsen's  on Friday about 15 guys out there maybe more. Ice was 3inches or so they said. Saw one group catch many small bluegill and small crappie. To early for me. I want at a bare minimum 4" under me. Stay safe.
Flags up! Bobbers down!

Hope it was a rescue and not a recovery, what is wrong with some people. I live in Ingleside and there is no good ice in the entire chain of lakes area, nothing even close.

Pistakee Bay had a water rescue yesterday.

Some people just want to be the first to say and give a first ice report. Most of these guys lack common sense and don't even bring a spud bar out with them, just taking a risk knowing there's only 2" or ice. Plain stupidity!

Most lack common sense Period!!!, I was on the South End of Pistakee Friday am, There was a solid 3" of Ice in the am which I did measure, I decided to take a pass Sat & Sunday due to other commitments, You had to be Knucking Futs to be out there on Sunday that's for sure. Just remember "Trust No One!!!!" when they tell you of current conditions, there is no such thing as safe Ice!!!!

I am going to unpack the spud and try for Monday. With this nice cold snap the ice should be safe in the bays and on small ponds. Anyone else giving it a try?

My father in law fished it Friday.  A good 4+ inches where he was.  Lots of small gills.  1 in 5 were nice keepers, more if you were desperate for a fish fry. I'm probably going to give it a shot tuesday or Thursday this week and will report back.
