question regarding flourocarbon leaders for pike
« on: Nov 22, 2005, 11:19 PM »
When using flourocarbon leaders for pike, is it best to tie hooks directly to the flourocarbon, or can a wire quick-strike rig be used?

Thank you.

A little steel at the bottom of you leader is always a good idea for Esox l.   On the other hand I have made pike leaders compleatly out of floro.  I use about 3 or 4 ft of 10 lb., then 6 to 8 inches of 25 lb. at the hook end.
When the going gets weird the weird turn pro.

If I am fishing were there is a chance for walleye also I would try the plain fluorocarbon, or make a quick-strike rig out of heavier lb fluorocarbon.
If I am after trophy pike or they don't seem to be line shy I would go with a thin wire leader or wire quick-strike rig.
Hope that helps :)
