Hello Again
« on: Nov 25, 2005, 09:57 PM »
Just stopped in to say hi and hope you all aren't having hardwater withdrawals like I am. Been trying to cure this illness with some fur trapping and I'll tell you the beaver bogs aren't safe to walk on yet... :o

I am running a huge line this yr of over 600 traps. I am based out of Patten but am covering from around Portage all the way to Millinocket and most roads in between.

John I trapped as a teenager and I'm glad to see there are still longliners out there.  Every fall I still get the temptation to pullout my 110s, 220s and 330s and my number 4 montgomery traps.  I still have 8 dozen stoploss waiting for my retirement in 25 years.

Scott,
Jump now as the price of muskrats is the best I have seen since the fur boom days and the competition is next to nothing.
This is my 20th year of longlining and every year I say I am going to have fun next year and just trap as a hobby. After the first few animals I am in full swing and running about 16 hours a day. My check starts at 2 am and runs until I am done checking then I skin what I have thawing out. I run 6 chest freezers and also have a walk in cooler that I store put up furs in. One won't make a huge living doing this but it sure beats punching a clock during the fall.
Heading back to Kansas to trap coyotes for the live market and also cash in on some of those 100 dollar bobcats. Will be sleeping about 4 hours a day but sleep can wait until I die.
