Mr heater portable  buddy. Its the smaller of the two and I have never had to turn it up off low. Most of the time I put it on low and take off my jacket.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

What is your experience with how long the little buddy heats? On the website it says that it will heat for 5 1/2 hours on a 1lb tank (really), but MANY reviews say that they can only get it to heat for around an hour on a tank.

The only reason I am wanting to get a heater for the shanty is to help introduce my girlfriend, and little sisters to ice fishing, and their biggest worry is getting cold. So I want to pick up a heater that will get the job done and wi last a long time.

I get about 5 hours on a tank with the little buddy heater. I bring 2 tanks and have heat all day long and have a little  left in the second tank or i run mine for a little while and shut it off when it gets to hot in the shack and a tank can almost last all day.

In that case I would go for a Portable Buddy heater, filter, and hose which can be hooked to the propane tank of your choice. A five lb tank would probably work well for you. http://www.mrheater.com/product.aspx?catid=41&id=24

They all work well in one and two man shelters. Thermal has really help with the smaller units and running with a one man shelter, the smaller the better. I ran with the Jason Mitchell one man last year and it was toast warm, and at times to warm. You will do fine with any of the little buddy units.

Ive had the portable Buddy for quite some time....heats up my 1 man ht polar express quite well and also my 3 man frabill and clam 6800 ....ive used my friends big buddy heater in my 6800 (uninsulated) on a17* F day and had it up to 70*. Most important with kids and women is proper attire ......kids are tough cause you usually cant find good quality thermal wear (only cottom) in their size.... snacks and action usually keeps them from getting cold ...and no all day trips ...otherwise you usually cant get em back out for another outing .

Coleman double mantle lantern works fine in my Yukon, one gallon of fuel @ 14 dollars lasts for days. true I am not fishing in a tee shirt but it is comfortable.

The problem I had with using the lantern was fumes. I get multiple days out of a 1lb bottle on mine but I also shut mine off when it gets toasty. And with me being in a black shack the sun does a lot with warming inside.
