« on: Feb 28, 2013, 05:28 AM »
Finally had a chance to try my nils blades that were sharpened by Frank DeLuca, our sponsor and authorized Nils sharpening service. they worked great, and his turnaound was as good as it gets. I'm pretty sure he shipped them the back to me the next day. Thank you Frank.

Thank you for the word and your business Bob.
MY PO is open M-F and any blades received on those days are sent out the same day I get them.
I try and warm the blades up and oil them after testing on the ice but sometimes they're still cold when they get dropped off at the PO.
Blades received on Sat get to sleep over till Monday.
IMO that is the way it should be. A blade sitting around here isn't doing me or anyone else any good.
Note that the USPS increased it rates by a little but when using Priority Mail you now get a tracking #.

Looking to support a sponsor.  Have a few pairs of Strikemaster 6" Hand Auger blades that need to be touched up.  Just looking for some feed back from fellow IceShantians who've had there blades sharpened by Fish307.

I've never had then resharpen some but I did swap a set of mine out for ones they redid and they were excellent. If you didn't know they were used you could never tell. They cut excellent. The guys down there, well downstate from me anyways, are excellent to deal with imho.

I use Fish307 for blades. I don't know how it works when you have to ship.
In the store they have an exchange system like crash mentioned. It keeps you from having to wait for them to sharpen.
I haven't bought a new set of blades in a long time. I've used the refurbished blades at 307 for more than 10 years.
They're always just as good as new when I swap out there.

I am awaiting to get a few more sets which need sharpening then I will send them all off to them to be touched up.  I am thinking this year I will go through a few sets with the sand blown into the ice.

Blujburd if you have visited the Fish 307 website you will see the option to exchange or sharpen your set of blades. The reason I bring this up is if you have Swedish made blades you may want them sharped and returned to you instead of exchange. Since 2006/07 many Strikemaster hand augers were sold with Chinese blades the quality of these blades is not the best. Do a search you will find numerous threads on the subject of Strikemaster auger blades. I have not used their blade service but made several gear purchases over the years, good company.

Thanks, ironically the original pair were of the Chinese decent.  The replacement pair I bought a few years back were of Swedish origin go figure.

How much longer did the Swedish set last you?

1yr, a buddy banged my spud bar into one of the blades last ice and you can see the shiny dull mark along with a slight burr from where the blade folded under.  It by no means is junked I just figured its the same price to have up to 3 pr sharpened so might as well send in both.  I just couldn't justify buying another new pair when one only has one yr on em and the other could still cut if need be.

i would just wait for my own back. my new laser drill i bought for my gas drill lasted all of three trips then would barely cut. Threw them in the trash and bought swedish ones.

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

If you call strikemaster and tell them you have purchased a auger with Chinese blades they will exchange them for a set of new Swedish blades. All they requested was the number from the blades.  This was free and the new blades came four days later. The Chinese blades I exchanged for Swedish blades at fish307.

Yes..  I believe the exchange for an 8" head was somewhere around $ 36.00..
Note: if you try or if the head shows ANY sign of being "self" sharpened , they will not accept it as an exchange, as my bro-in-law found out the hard way and puked up $80.00 for a new head..
