I'm new here, and have question ? I have a Vexilar Fl 8 SLT. When I am using it there are times when it becomes dim, does any one know what causes this to happen ? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Welcome to the site. Have the same vex as you but have never encountered the problem you are having. Will be interested to find out if anyone knows whats going on with it just in case.

They seemed to remove the page from there site, but here are the directions.

Brush Cleaning Instructions

Remove the two screws from the back cover, unplug the power and transducer jacks from the PC board, and remove the back cover. Next, remove the control knobs from the front of the case (the allen size is 1.5mm). Remove the four screws that hold the PC board in place and remove the board.

Using compressed air, blow out all of the brush dust from in and around the wheel assembly and wash the front case, inside and out, with soap and water.

To clean the brush contacts, make a tool by stapling a small piece of fine sandpaper to the end of a popsicle stick. Connect the rear case power jack to the PC board and turn the unit on. Be careful of the spinning wheel! Insert the tool you made between the board and the spinning wheel. Clean the three brass rings until they are shinny. Clean the three brass rings until they are shinny. Run the unit for at least 30 minutes at room temperature to re-seat the brushes. This should increase your light intensity to where it was when the unit was new.

If the brush contacts are worn significantly, you should replace them.

Welcome, and I hate to sound stupid, and I'm not being a wise guy,  but how is the charge on your battery?

The battery is new last season and I charge it after each use. I had the problem before I replaced the battery, so I don't think its a battery problem.  The battery was my first thought. I'll try the brush cleaning instructions. Thank you for the instructions Reel_Force.

Another thought: check all wire connections. Maybe something is loose or chaffed. Especially check your ground wire.

Cleaned the Brush contacts per instructions. Checked all wires and connections. Hopefully the Vex will be good to go. Now if the ice firms up in the next day or two I can test it out. Thank you all for the suggestions to remedy the problem. Happy Holidays to all.

Had the Vex out the other day. No problem with the flasher dimming, fished 6 or so hours and no problems. Thanks again to all for the help with this problem. Happy New Year.
