I love the conversation going on here. I would love to see the daily bag limits of pan-fish reduced again. As responsible anglers, we must educate children to take it upon themselves to take less fish and stick to the rules. Unfortunately, I think it's to late to educate some of the seasoned fishermen. They have been taught to keep as many fish as possible. I think it's a sense of pride to get that picture of a pile of fish. I think some people just can't leave a lake without saying "I caught my limit." The biggest problem we have is not the anglers that fish occasionally, it's the anglers that fish more than once a week and fill their freezers.
Probably closing it so the lake can rebound Not to mention the publicity the lake has got in the paper and these forums.
Game and Parks doesn't always help the resource, either. This article was published in December, 2011 complete with topo maps:http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/2011/12/crescent-blue/Only took a year to trash a great fishery.....look at the comments of the article and there were supposedly 100 folks fishing Blue in very short order. Good for selling licenses (if there was enforcement), not so good for PR with private land holders for either NGPC nor ethical sportspeople.Should require Park stickers to access Open Fields and Waters areas in my opinion, with enforcement.
Nah, Game & Parks doesn't help the resource. Did you know that neither Crescent nor Blue would be open to fishing if it were not for the Game & Parks? And that Game & Parks renovated and re-stocked both lakes? So we should do that and then let only a few of you know about it? Everyone's fishing permit dollars were used to develop those fisheries and Nebraska anglers should know about it.By the way, the money from Park Stickers goes strictly for our state park and state recreation areas; not a dime of that money goes for fisheries management nor does a dime of your fishing permit money go to the state parks. It cannot. And I will say again, if you see problems with violations, find the numbers for the conservation officers, you can find them all here, http://www.outdoornebraska.ne.gov/fishing/guides/fishguide/pdf/FishGuide.pdf, call 'em and keep calling 'em. When you cannot get in contact with them or think that they are doing nothing, call 'em again!Daryl BauerFisheries Outreach Program ManagerNebraska Game & Parks Commission[email protected]http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/blogs/category/barbs-and-backlashes/
