Scatterwood Lakes near Chelsea question?
« on: Feb 09, 2013, 06:45 PM »
From Indiana and will be making a trip to the area to visit some friends near Chelsea near the end of the month. How is the ice fishing there? We have had another rough winter with not the amount of ice we used to get. Any info on those two lakes or any around the area would be a big help.  Thanks in advance.

I have never fished them but this is what I know.  About 5 yrs ago we pheasant hunted the north lake, it was basically all dried up.  The north end might have had a little water.  The next couple of yrs were wet and it filled up and has been full as of fall 2011 (I don't know how it handled the drought last yr).  The state stocked some perch and pike after it filled up.  Here is a link to the netting report from 2011

The south lake had some water in it when the north was dry and had stayed pretty full when I was there in 2011.  i do not know what is has for fish.  Wish i could be more help.  Richmond Lake is a little north of Aberdeen and has been known for panfish as well as some walleye.  i am guessing there might be some other ponds around Chelsea, but you might have to stop at a local business or something for info since I don't know of any.  Or if your near the lake stop by a local farm, i think the guy that live between the lakes is pretty freindly. On a side note that area got around 10" of snow yesterday, no telling what the access conditions will be when you get out here.

I haven't fished Scatterwood for many years. I'm looking at the stocking summary for 2010 and 1,000,000 Walleye fry and 3,200 juvenile perch were stocked into North Scatterwood. I know it used to have Crappie and Northern in it also. I can't say I know of anyone who has ever fished South Scatterwood. You may want to ask the locals about Bierman Gravel Pit and Cresbard Lake.
