Crystal Lake or Mt Tom?
« on: Feb 01, 2013, 09:01 AM »
Going to burn a tank of gas on Saturday to scout these two places to see how things look so that I'm ready for Sunday. I'd imagine they should be locked back up after this heat wave by then (today and tomorrow aren't suppose to get out of freezing). Already pulled a couple salmon out of Mt Tom but heard they put even more in Crystal Lake (Saw a nice Youtube video too). Has anyone had good luck on Crystal this year? Which lake do you prefer?

Did Crystal get two 100 salmon stockings?  The 2-6# and then the 100 larger?

Crystal had open spots and lost some ice after the storm. If you don't know the place, be real careful if you go.
I can try and get up there late tomorrow morning for a look.

I live by crystal lake and it is too hit or miss on the ice for me to waste my time there when there r much more productive lakes around. I went once this year then said to myself why did I come here... Never been to mount Tom but I bet it's better than crystal lake for ice fishing.

At Crystal now checking ice.
Big open area on the east side of the lake. Measured about 5 at the launch out to 100ft from it, with a few visible open spots. It also looks like he ice broke into huge plates, and refroze. The gaps in between those plates have thinner ice. Watch out around them. Obviously use caution.

Can see a couple guys fishing off the beach.
