LOTW Ice Road Conditions (Kenora Area)
« on: Jan 04, 2013, 05:13 PM »
Does anyone know if there is anywhere online where the ice road conditions are posted?  I've done a bit of searching but only found info for the Minnesota side of the lake.  I'm trying to find out the conditions for Clearwater and Ptarmigan.  Any info would be great!

Thanks

I'm not sure about that section of the lake but there should be at least a start of an ice road there by now.  There has been one going to Treaty island for awhile now.  Further south by Strawberry was just getting plowed last week reports were saying 9-10 inches in some areas.

Clearwater Bay ice was thin last weekend according to a friend who plows. We did have about a week of -25 weather so it may be good now for sleds anyway.
Ice roads were only put south to Strawberry this past week and a camp owner punched one to Wolf. I advise anyone who is unfamiliar with the lake to not venture of the roads, especially with cars/trucks. Ice has been forming very slowly this year I think. Air temps have been cold enough but the water was unseasonably warm on LOTW well into December. I was looking at a boat the first week of December and the dealer offered a test drive from Keewatin.
Stay safe,
Glen

A friend has a camp on Hare and he plows from the entrance at Welcome along the south side of Hare. Him and his wife were out all last weekend and fixed up the road after the huge dump of snow we got. He burned his clutch out so I hope he gets it back running before we get another dump of snow.
Lots of slush reported all over the place so be careful if venturing off the roads.

Thanks for the update! Do you have any information on the road out of Rush Bay?

Anyone get out fishing LOTW this weekend?  I'm going out next weekend for the first time this year (been fishing other lakes) and wondering how things have been... Thanks.

Road out of Rush Bay is good out to West Ptarmigan Bay. Fair amount of snow off the road, though, with a risk of slush. Proceed with caution.

My buddy Mark is working on Clearwater Bay right now and he reports 9" of good ice with a further 4" of frozen slush on top.
Stay on the plowed roads folks.
