Wyomings best Burbot Fishing
« on: Jan 21, 2013, 02:35 PM »
Went to Flaming Gorge this weekend and managed to bring home ten burbot averaging a little less than two pounds each. My question is where in Wyoming is there better fishing for big numbers of larger ling?

Fontenelle Res. has bigger fish for sure to repeat what Muskyon46 said. It seems to me like they are are more aggressive there as well and are good fighting fish, they dont just come right up.

I disagree on FONTANELLE ! The size of the avg fish in FONT are bigger but on a good night between 3 guys 30 fish is doin really good ! The fish in the GORGE are just as big and on a good night 200 fish between 3 guys is possible ! My personal best with a pal in 1 night o fishing the GORGE was 108 Ling and 90% of them came out a 2 holes ! So for me Wyomings  best burbot fishing is on the GORGE you just have to find em if you catch 10 in 1 trip you aint fishing or looking hard enough or they are not in that area or in the spawn in my opinion !

I have got some big ling in each body of water (fontenelle and the gorge). But the gorge takes it by far for numbers and about equal on the occasional large burbot. With Fontenelle, most of the fish are bigger but less numbers. The gorge has way better numbers for fish. But the gorge is like Fontenelle but alot of dinks to go with your bigger catches. I have heard that for big ling (10lbs +) you should fish central wyoming around riverton, shoshoni, and dubois. ;D

Bull Lake and Dinwoody Lakes on the reservation are the place to go for big ones. I wouldn't say over 10 pounds is common, but quite a few are pulled out every year.

I would think that the Gorge would hold better numbers because of the size difference in the body of waters(guessing 7 or 8 to 1 ). But I know that there are some pigs in Fontenelle.
I like Fontenelle because I am there in less than 30 minutes from my house. I suppose that I would feel different if I lived in Green River though.  ;)
