Well, Glen was a bust for me today. Only got a drum that wanted to tear out line. No slabs like I was looking for...>:( I think I missed the bite by a week lol. The areas that we fished looked like swiss cheese so they were hit HARD before we fished em! KsIcer did you have any luck? There was a small group of guys that I fished with and they had maybe 10 keeper crappie out of 5 guys. They got there at 8 and left around 4ish. There were some guys on the other end of the causeway that were supposedly getting into fish but I didn't feel like walking the mile and a half to get where they were. They had atvs so that made it a bit easier for them.

Jordy? They still had ATV's on the ice? Wow. How thick was it. Were they on the NW side of the causeway where the 2 rivers come in? Sorry about your luck man.

Yeah, there were two groups that had ATV's out there. 4 total ATV's and they had two driving right behind each other at one point in time. I don't know if that was the safest thing but they were out there. Yeah I was fishing around the fork in the rivers and the other groups were fishing on the northwest side, pretty close to the shore. Yeah, you didn't miss out on much lol, making that money! It was a really nice day though and pretty awesome day to just chill on the ice.

I fished Kirwin last saturday and did pretty well compared to most. The ice on the North side was around 5" and getting pretty soft. I am 50/50 on going there again this weekend due to unknown ice conditions. Anyone fish the south side recently? How was the bite and ice?

Thank you.

Just received a phone call that the Kansas State Patrol are guarding the entrances to Kirwin and not letting anyone in. A work associate went down yesterday and was told to go somewhere else, he could not fish due to poor ice conditions. They also said there was around 5-6' of open water around the edge of the lake.

Haha A simple "closed to ice fishing" sign would do fine.... you dont have to pay it 20$ per hour to sit there!  :) Sounds like open water fishing is getting closer. Once those edges open then its a matter of time. Thanks for the report.

I can only speak for myself, but I would rather fish on the ice than out of a boat. I enjoy it more.

After talking to the guy again, he said the Kansas State Patrol was "advising" anglers to stay off the ice, not "prohibiting". Like another poster said, a sign would have probably sufficed. I'm wondering if these last few days haven't restored the ice to a fishable strength. I would love to get back out there at least one more time this year.

If a guy was going to try, the next couple of days would be the time to go.  Looks like a warm spell forecasted the next 10 days.  Probably won't be much good ice left.
