Slow fishing day distractions
« on: Jan 24, 2013, 10:21 AM »
I walk the shoreline looking for lures lost in the overhanging trees by summer boat anglers. Maples and oaks usually are the best producers. Evergreens you'll have to look for telltale line hanging down. Grab a long limb and hook one of the plug/lure hooks and pull. I've found quite a bit of lures up in the trees when it is slow fishing.
They were biting great out here an hour ago but........

That's a good idea if you're set up next to the shoreline!

If I'm fishing with others, I like playing cribbage or poker....but if I'm alone, I'll take a nap in my beanbag chair. ;D

Estes rockets....i put on my jiffy blade cover aka the jiffy rocket helmet always a good time
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Today was a pretty slow day that was made a bit more interesting by some driftwood that was found on shore.  We made a balance beam out of our findings and had some Olympic-Style judging of the acrobatics that occurred.

Most of the routines lasted less than a couple of steps on a frosted plank, but we got in a nice trick or two.

It's a miracle that nobody was taken to the hospital.

I always bring a small Beans radio and tune into a talk show or Christian radio station to learn something new. It's never a waste of time to be outdoors.
Look for the Jolly Roger and I'll be near!

I use to take a kite and the kids would fly it while waiting for our next flag.
Whenever someone caught a fish...my Uncle David always shouted..."THROW IT BACK TO IT"S MOTHER!!"  I can hear that echoing across the frozen lake now!

If the ice is thin and clear... I love to move to the muddy shallows by an inlet and look for turtles swimming around down there.
If the ice is thick... I pull out the lawn chair and a good cigar.
I wish I was in heaven sittin down..........on a 5 gallon pail!

I love cribbage. Gotta be in a shack, pegging is tough with gloves on.
You can always find me where the wind breaks.
