Anyone ever try using tipups for burbot? They work good in AK but it doesn't seem like many people run them here.

I use a couple HT riggers for 2 of my poles and they do ok, Going to use just a big chunk of bait on these. Caught a small pup last year on this set-up right at dark as we were setting up for the night.

We would run them right off the bottom with a big chunk of bait on it. We never used any glow, just a large hook. Worked well on lakers too.

We dont talk with a whole lot of people when we're up there as everyone gets pretty spread out, but i have seen quite a few people using tip-ups. Works great if you have the lil-shiner light on them from what ive seen and hopefully what we'll see as thats the ones fishon got

I have found tip-ups to be pretty effective, especially on nights when burbot prefer the dead-sticked presentations.  I usually jig a rod or two and set-up four tip-ups in varying depths, just make sure to keep them well seperated.  If you get a fish that wants to run on a tip-up, it's pretty easy for him to get wound up in your others.  I also rig my tip-ups accordingly for night fishing.  I put reflective tape on the flags, so I can shine them with my headlamp and check them.  I also put bells on them, so you can hear them when they fling up.  On really windy nights, you still hear the bells ringing, but they have a distinctive sound when a fish hits.  Some of my buddies also have tip-up lights which are really sweet, but you have to be watching them.  Finally, the only real issue I have had with tip-ups is the nights when it's really cold.  The grease in the shafts gets stiffer, so they don't spin as freely.  Last winter, I relubed them all with Frabill SubZero grease and it's really helped to keep them loose.  It's a fun option to have for burbot, kinda like running a trapline!

Hope it helps!

Anyone ever park a truck camper in a parking lot up there? I guess that's the really nice thing about truck campers, they pretty much can go anywhere.

You can park it any where you can get it into, lots of options/areas with that set-up at the gorge
