The Good

I have been fishing this area the last week, Fishing and Ice travel has been good.

Ice has been a consistant 6" anywghere I drilled

My bucket from Tuesday jan 8

Yesterdays catch Jan 10

HOWEVER we have had a LOT of rain here today and temps are forecasted to go to +10'C
Saturday.

I know there are guys on this board who travel some distance to Fish Simcoe But the conditions are deteriorating fast!!!

Be sure to check with Mike Heyink in Virginia,Steves Huts in Pefferlaw or Casey's in Port Bolster before making the drive.

Some of the operators are canecelling reservations for this weekend!!  They are not pulling huts yet but are thinking of it and will if they think it is necessary.

I hope it does not come to that, The Forecast is for temps to fall next week and we should be good to go by next weekend

See Ya on the 'Hard Stuff'

  • FISH SAFE FOR YOUR LOVED ONES

Hut Operators at all the above locations have cancelled their bookings for the weekend and were pulling their Huts off the Ice this morning.
Looks like SAFE ICE FISHING on Lake Simcoe is on hold for the moment.....We need winter weather.....not what we have now.....Tomorrow Plus 9 and Rain isn't Good News.
There are guys launching their boats on Sat in Barrie Ont to go to the Whitefish and Laker Grounds.
Welcome to Global Warming People. LOL.

Hey guys, Thanks for the great reports, I'm about 4-5 hours SW of you (Chatham area) and I've been looking forward to getting back up to Simcoe, hopefully a few times through out the season.

Hopefully you all can find some time between landing those hogs for more reports once the ice conditions are worth the trip!

Amen!  Hat's off to the good guys...

Decent ice here, south end Chemong Lake but the fishing is not worth the effort.  1) Panfish & pike only 2) No pike in this lake yet (thankfully!) 3)  12 man-hours for 4 perch 3-5" = GROCERY STORE instead

It is finally starting to cool down here in Gilford +1'C.

With all the rain, and melting snow there is a major run off into the Lake,

This in flow is warming the lake water and creating large areas at ice access points with no ice.

This will be the weak spots until we get some cold temps!! It will take more than -5'C

It might take another week before it is good to go

Repilot you should be okay because after this Wed we have a cold snap coming with night time temps from minus 8 celcius to minus 20 celcius and not much snow coming either so the Ice should be good to go for you....Fire me a PM a couple of days before and I will give you ice thickness in inches.....should be 10 inches or more by the time you get here.

Rev

Good move to delay your trip. Frustrating but still the best move!!

Conditions around Simcoe deteriorated big time the last 3 days, We had rain big time and 45'F Temps!! Most areas are not accessable right now.

Where are you headed?
