NH Licenses question
« on: Jan 12, 2013, 06:09 PM »
I'm from NY coming up to NH next weekend to do some fishing. I was told by a friend of mine(not sure if this is true) but they said you can purchase your fishing license at any NH liquor outlet, as long as its a state liquor store. Is this true? Sounds like BS too me, but I'm not from NH.lol thanks for any help!

I suppose so. Drinking and ice fishing go hand in hand.

Not sure about that.  Can buy it online for an extra $2 though, beats stopping anywhere.

I was told (by another friend) that you have to do it in person if you dont have a "number". I've never purchased a license before in NH for fishing or hunting.

Also buying online allows you to save the license as a PDF which you can reprint any time should you lose or ruin your license.

NO they do not, as the law reads your license must be signed by the fisherman. Unless you have a way of signing your name to the smart phone, it is not legal ;)

"
Resident Affidavit: I certify that I am a resident of New
Hampshire and that I do not claim residence in any other
state for any purpose (the word residence as used shall
mean domicile).
Sportsman Statement: I certify that my hunting and/or
fishing privileges are not under suspension or revocation in
any state or province (RSA 214:18b) and further certify that
I am aware that any conviction of certain felonies in any
state or province prohibits the possession of a firearm or
other dangerous weapon.
Signature:
LICENSEE SUBJECT TO PENALTIES FOR MAKING
UNSWORN FALSE STATEMENT UNDER RSA 641:3"

Dipsy is absolutely right.  And if you make out multiple copies you should be sure to sign all of them.

I print up 3, keep one in my wallet, one in the car, and one in the bobhouse. 2 wardens came to my shack the other day to shoot the breeze and neither one asked me for it, figures.

Every year I print one out, or have a store do it for me, then I sign it and scan it onto my computer.  This way I have the actual license (printed small and laminated) and I also have a signed copy saved as a .pdf on my computer and phone.

Whether they want to see it or not, I show em. They don't even have to ask. I pay good money for a license and they are the only ones that really need to see it so I make sure I get my moneys worth. Plus it breaks the ice....so to speak.

Ok, what if you shrink it down so it is smaller to fit in your wallet.  Still signed but only about 5 inches long and an 1.25 inches wide.  Think they would still accept it?

I have shrunk mine and  laminate it so it is water proof, however I was given a hard time about once. Since it was legible, the issue was moot. The mindset is that your altering a legal document. :)

Walmart printed one for me last year and I shrunk it and folded it to hide all of the fine print (it ended up being the same size as my license but printed double sided).  I made sure it showed the important stuff like the nh license title, the boxes that showed it was fishing and salmon fishing, my name and my signature.  I had a few officers give me looks but let me go without a hassle.  If the refuse to accept it then I could always pull out my phoone and show them the .pdf.

Thanks for all the good insight.  I fixed the signature/.pdf problem by printing a copy, signing and taking a picture of it that lives on my phone.

For several years now I have printed small copies and laminated them. I usually print a half dozen and stick them in the glove compartment, tackle box and wallet.  Just don't want to see fish jumping and be stuck without a license (has happened before).  I have to keep tabs on the copies so my driver's license # doesn't get circulated. Hasn't been a problem yet.

In NY  you have to have a "#" to "reorder" a license with DEC, online. I always save my old one to do so. That way I don't have to find a place to buy it on the way there.

Suppport local shops and buy your license in person when possible. They make 1$ per license and cents on a stamp. They are also required to sell x amount of licenses/stamps or the state revokes their priveledge to provide licenses the following year.

Exactly right. In fact, I asked an officer the other day, and those were his exact words. Must be signed. So, I printed mine out, signed it, scanned it, and emailed it to my smartphone. I plan on trying that out next time I'm checked, but keeping a paper copy with me just in case.
