of the water column? I do see some flashes on left side of the screen ? not sure how to read..      thanks

12.5 x2 is 25' that is the bottom nothing on the right is anything unless you have the zoom on, zoom is shown on the right, 6 oclock is the bottom when in zoom...

so what you are saying is the full water column is on left at 35' or 2x17.5  with a 20'screen
not much room left for flash to see other fish...at that point it might be hard to determined
what depth the flashes are at...I guess you would use the zoom mode ....

There are several videos on youtube you can watch on your unit. you can even go to www.marcumtech.com and there are videos on the LX 5 James Holst (In depth Outdoors) does a few videos on your flasher. after you watch the videos you will have a better understanding of your flasher and have it mastered in a few trips out.

There are several videos on youtube you can watch on your unit. you can even go to www.marcumtech.com and there are videos on the LX 5 James Holst (In depth Outdoors) does a few videos on your flasher. after you watch the videos you will have a better understanding of your flasher a have it mastered in a few trips out.

The instructional and demo videos are good source of info and highly recommended. To sum it all up ...

Think of the flasher dial as the face of a clock. Without zoom turned on, the top (12 o'clock) position indicates 0 ft (the bottom of your transducer) with the depth scale progressing down (clockwise) all the way back around and back up to the 12 o'clock position which would be the end of the set range (20/40/60/etc. ft).

Let's say I'm actually sitting over 25 FOW (that is, from the transducer to the lake/structure bottom). When I first turn my LX-5 on to the 20 ft range (gain usualy set at or just over "2") it doesn't show bottom which tells me the water is deeper than 20 ft. When I switch to the 40 ft range it shows bottom between the 7 and 8 o'clock position which corresponds to 25 ft (or the 12.5 ft mark on the 0-20 ft scale; 2 x 12.5 ft = 25 ft).

When I press the 'ZOOM' button the dial effectively splits down the middle. The entire 40 ft range is displayed on the right side of the dial (12 o'clock clockwise to 6 o'clock; 0-40 ft) with the 25 ft bottom now indicated close to the 4 o'clock position. The 5 ft zoom window is displayed on the left half of the dial (12 o'clock counter-clockwise to 6 o'clock) with that 5 ft range defaulted to the top of the water column, that is, from the transducer 0 ft to 5 ft down. I press the 'DOWN' button to display the boundaries of the zoom window (two yellow marks) on the 40 ft range and move it down the water column to whatever depth I prefer ... in this case down until bottom appears at the bottom of the zoom window, that is, on the left half of the dial between the 6 and 7 o'clock positions.

Hope this helps.
