When fishing in shallow water for trout like 4 feet and shallower, Is there a way to have the tip up so it is not so close to the bottom? Fish aren't that dumb they have gotta see it and swim away from it. haha.2
Jack Jr's! Yes they are pricey but having one or two in your arsenal is a nice touch.I actually like my Husky tip-ups for Bow fishing. Can't be more than 15 bucks but you can adjust the height of the spool and the line comes off the spool parallel to the ice instead of perpendicular.
I made a wooden block out of some left over 2x4.. It's light and works great
Hey Egg7 welcome back....good to see you posting.
Use 4 chunks of ice or piles of slush from the hole. Build up as high as you want. Capt. Black
the polar tips are perfect for shallow water troutin'....adjustable shaft.
Yes of course bring cribbing and jack up those traps Sorry could not resist.. Try baiting holes with salmon eggs, make your rounds to each hole looking for missing eggs, then use your best weapon...a jig pole Leave the tip-ups out slighly deeper.
Ok, so dumb question from me...I have never tried salmon eggs or jigging in shallow water (jig plenty in deeper water for lakers/cusk but never tried shallow), but do the trout still go for the salmon eggs if there are no salmon in the lake? Are the eggs just too much for the trout to ignore???
Go back to the past and use what we started with - stick tip-ups. Wood strip, set at 45%, line laid out on the ice, wire set to the flag. No need to be hi- tech. Worked then still works now!
