After Christmas is my guess.  :-\
Hopefully Horsethief will freeze a little sooner then that.

If we have clear cold nights and no more rain. It's been along time since I've seen that much rain, especially in the fall. I'll be there in a day or two too see if the water levels have risen at all, most rivers and streams up here are at spring run-off levels. Spent all day Sunday digging water bars so the driveway wouldn't end up in Lewiston.

So BearsFan, looks like you moved to South Idaho.  Are you fishing Cascade?  North Idaho will be awhile locking up but cold weather due her soon, I hope.  Which lake would you think would freeze over with safe ice first around North Idaho?

Yeah we moved back down here after five years up north, I really enjoyed living up there. No ice on Cascade yet, maybe in another week. Some of the smaller lakes around here will be fishable this weekend. We are starting to get winter temps instead of late spring temps. Walsh Lake seems like freezes first, I lived in Elmira so that was close by, Blue lake also(near Priest River). There are a bunch of mountain lakes if there is no snow that don't require a major hike. I loved ice fishing up there, many many options.

Hi Bearfan,  What about Perkins?  is it easy to get to in winter? - will be up in Bonners Ferry later in month around the 27th and hoping to get some ice fishing in by then. Real warm here again today and not much chance of ice  unless that big ugly cold front shows up next week.  Post anything you know about that Cascade tourney on North Idaho Ice and maybe get some of us down there for that.

never tried Perkins or Dawson we had a blast at Brush, Big Bluegills, they don't plow the road so get there early in the season. Check out the Idaho Tourny and Events at the top  of the Idaho forum. Woodland is putting it on, it'll be a good one. Tackle Tom's will be posted soon I imagine.

Seems like youll be fishing afyer christmas, but also depends on what  the winds gonna be like because that wind will tear up that skimming ice.

Thank you for the information.  It's a long trip for us here in N. Idaho and we have not really got any ice as of yet.  Fished Cascade last year at the very end of the ice and had three very different weather situations. Day 1 sunny and nice. Day 2 Blizzard  Day 3 Rainy and windy with the ice beginning to go.  Less than ideal conditions but we caught some nice perch.
