First walleye
« on: Dec 19, 2012, 10:16 PM »
Went out after work today for a couple hours on one of the big lakes and got my first walleye of the ice season a 15" not great but it felt good to get that out of the way. I was surprised at how much ice, we went way out into the main lake on a point that was open water a little over a week ago had about 3" of clear ice. Tip up and 4" sucker minnow in 10 -12 feet of water right on the drop off on a rocky point. Now I got the walleye itch bad.

grats, i got a nice start on filling the freezer as well. couple 18''s and a bunch under ugh .  i here the crappies are hitting well too.

been out fishing last couple weeks. i expect wheelers to be out and about come friday.

tho i seem to notice the lake/lakes ice sure can change from one end to the other all the way up to 3 inches of ice right now, which is huge.   please be carefull out there.

Round Lake Sawyer Co. I bet by Saturday 4 wheelers will be all over the lakes. single digit lows for the next 4 nights with no snow to speak of on the ice. Will probably have about 5" ice by Saturday on the big lakes. By big I mean over 3,000 acre.

I thought about it but 15" ahh wasn't worth a picture. It filleted up nice though and in the freezer working on enough now for a walleye meal for the family. I got a 4 day weekend coming up so I'm going to be an ice fishing mad man, might even try one of my good crappie holes.
