West GTG Date
« on: Dec 11, 2012, 09:10 AM »
An earlier thread brought up the topic of revisiting the date for the west GTG and there seemed to be some support for moving the date back into January.  I fully realize no single date will work for all members, but sure hate to see Sandbilly and Hankthecrank out of the mix given all they did to make last years GTG work.  Those who attended remember late ice conditions on the refuge made that portion of the weekend less than it could have been.  I have not heard from any members regarding cabin reservations for the initial dates in mid-February and am wondering if a date change would/could spark more interest.  With the date of the Cork Thornton tournament on Big Alkali set for Jan. 27, would the weekend of Jan. 19-20 be a possibility for more members to participate? Maybe even some prefishing? Odds of finding good ice conditions would be better.  I will do my best to make whatever date is preferred by the group work here at the Trading Post. I believe that we are still early enough in the planning process to make a change.  What do you folks think?

The arms have a skim layer of ice up to 2 inches thick.  The main lake is still open. High winds during most of the recent cold snap prevented a solid freeze up.   I doubt the ice will hold up on the arms given the forecast.  I was hoping for safe ice by mid-December but that's just not gonna happen.  I'll post when better ice conditions finally arrive.

I will be at the Maskenthine tourney that weekend (ice willing)  if that doesn't pan out, I can make it to Merritt.  Sounds fine with me changing the date.
