New Toy
« on: Nov 10, 2012, 07:41 PM »
I went up to the Eagle Claw factory store Yesterday to see if they had any of the Inline Ice reels that have been a hot topic on Here the last week. They are out of the reels sold buy themsleves BUT they do have it in a ultralight combo if any one is interseted just call them up and order it.

Wow... with that price it sounds like EC has no problem continuing to under cut the sales of the store they sell.... like the reel, but hate their business tactics  :nono:

The reel itself has a MSRP from eagle claw at $29.99 (they sold the ones missing a box for 50% off because they cant distribute them to the stores without a box). The combo will have a MSRP of $39.99. So gander mtn will probably list it at $89.99.  ;D I've seen the previews of it on another site, looks interesting. If I have to order the reel, I'll just get the combo for $10 more.

I doubt it would be worth it to them to order more boxes and then pay an employee to re-box them. They probably sell to retailers for $18-20 each with a box and paperwork. So if they can liquidate them at $15 each to the public they are probably making more profit than if they ordered more boxes and payed an employee to repackage them and distribute to the retailers.

I went to both GM's here in Denver and neither one had the reel.  In fact both GM's here have only put out the same limited Ice gear they had last year and its even lest then they had last year.  But either way the guys a Eagle Claw were realy cool I  didn't get the reel but got a Ice pole and the guy that checked me out took 10% off for no reason which I think was realy cool.

I tested out this reel over the weekend and was happy with its performance.  It is a lot like a bait caster in that you have to set it so that it does not overspool and create a rats nest.  I am not totally sold on the line twist theory but the reel worked well once set up.  Spent most of the day in the heated tent jigging bluegills and perch.

Received my new ice reel (Eagle Claw Straight Line) from Cabalas today.   Looks Sweet,  now what line to use? Have to check out the different ice lines.  I see that suffix 832 has a new ice line.
Come on cold weather.
