Jigging pattern
« on: Feb 25, 2005, 09:19 PM »
Just thought i would pass along the technique that i have used this season with great success.unless the fish are very agressive,or predictible i usually start out placeing the jig about 5 inches above the fish.if i dont get a responce within 5 to 10 seconds.  i jig/bounce it about 2 inches off and on in the same general area ,again 5 to 10 seconds....no responce jig it radically 2 to 5 ft.then let it drop and hold for 5 to 10 seconds.if al else fails put it right in front of them and let it sit 5 seconds and twitch,5 seconds then twitch....then slowly raise it up above the fish.I do vary the order depending on the fish's raction.sometimes eliminateing one or more of the methods as sometimes the fish react by leaveing if i do some of the methods.I all this fails to get a strike but he fish seem to be somewhat interested, change lure/bait.and start over.Of course ,wtout a flasher or cam this will be harder to see whaich methods get what reaction.I have watched alot of guys just sit and jig the same way all day and not catch any fish, alot of times moving cuz your not catching fish may not be nessasary ,just change it up alittle.also when no fish are on the screen, i will jig radically and then stop and hold about 15 seconds.i think alot of times fish will be attracted to the movement but not be aggresive enough to move in .stopping gives them a little insentive to come the rest of the way in to check it out.them i just have to figure out what series they want.Hope this helps some of the rookies out there .I havent seen any pointers like this on here so i thought id throw out my 2 cents. If anyone has any questions comments feel free to ask....

I usually use subtle jigging motions with jiggles and long pauses. If they fail and the fish is still on screen and won't take, I will lift fall or quickly reel the bait away from the fish. Often playing keep away gets the fish to take, especially predators like trout.
