Bow & Escargots
« on: Feb 22, 2012, 03:30 PM »
Caught this bow yesterday.  Finally after a few times targeting bows I finally caught one,  It was untagged so I decided to bring it home to the skillet.  The stomach was loaded with these.  Is this a common forage for rainbows?  If so has anyone tried baiting with them?  Just curious.

Cool stuff, I've never seen snails in them. You can learn so much sometimes when you open their stomach.

i see the trout down here in mass all the time with these in their stomachs, just shows that they grub off the bottom alot.  Wait until you catch one with a full senko worm or bass tube in its gut and wonder how they was room for anything esle to get in

I was wondering how they pass these also.  They are only the size of a pea but hard as a rock.  There must of been about 40 in the gut.

Yes, I've seen this on occassion.  Trout or fish not being able to digest corn is a myth. @)

Has anyone tried using the snails as bait?  With that many in the trout I would think they"d work.

I noticed last year on silver lake in harrisville i caught about 80 rainbows most of them were stuffed full of snails. and this year I have a small pond that I catch rainbows, browns and brookies out of. this year I have only gotten rainbows out of there when usually 9 out of 10 fish are brookies, and it has been super slow year wondering if it has anything to do with the hundreds of black colored beetles I been finding in there stomachs

Would you consider it a "Lucky Strike" if you were to catch a "Marlbow"?
