m68c vs. x67c
« on: Feb 13, 2012, 06:10 AM »
Hey guys I'm looking into getting my first electronic unit for ice fishing and was really interested in these two units. Just wondering what the main differences are on these two units are? Also, wondering if either of these units have GPS and lake mapping features? It would be really nice to view the lake structures and mark waypoints so I can fish the exact spot the next day! Thanks!

As far as I can tell, the only difference is that the M68c has the GPS function.

Go to the lowrance website and download one of the product emulators, thats what sealed the deal for me when I bought my X67c this year.

The X67c is a great unit, at a great price.

If you do any open water fishing, you can pick up an openwater ducer for it too.

I have the m68c and only difference is GPS without lake mapping option.
Fisherman's Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish
          Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
       I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
           And peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be Judged
              BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

If you want GPS capabilities that have lake mapping capabilities the Humminbird 385ci is another option I would definitely check out.  A little bit spendier than the lowrance x67 but should be comparable to the m68 if you shop around. Purchased mine towards the end of the season last year for $370.  A very nice sonar in my opinion that I have been very impressed with. Wouldn't go back to a traditional flasher after the using the humminbird.  Only dislikes are mediocre interferance rejection and the battery life could be a little longer (I can still get a sunup to sundown day of fishing on a 7ah battery).  I like the portable pack that humminbird has. If you want more info you can PM me and I can get you screen shots and give you my full impression.  I think you will be happy with any of your choices, but I do like the lake mapping ability in the Bird... ESPECIALLY for open water applications.

you may want to look into the Lowrance Elite 5 for ice fishing.

If your budget is high enough to consider the elite 5 I would also look at the marcum LX-7 right away.  Thing I like about the LX-7 over the elite 5 is the ability to go to a narrow (8 degree I think) transducer cone.  This gives great definition compared to the wider cones the lowrances or the birds use.  The marcum is supposed to have very good interferance rejection as well.  It does have some kinks to work out without a doubt, but it sure does have a lot of potential.  Only bad thing is that it lacks the GPS and it is still unknown if they will release the stuff you need to use it on open water.  It all comes down to your primary use... if JUST ice fishing and your budget is this high, I would probably lean towards the marcum.  However, this is just an opinion as I do not own nor have I used either.  The owners of these should be able to give better input.

I'll actually be purchasing the LX-7 sometime this week, but also wanted a fish finder/GPS/lake mapping unit that fits for ice fishing also. I was lost trying to find my old holes from the previous day while this other guy with a hand held GPS unit found his exact holes and made me thought of getting one. I'll definitely look at other units such as the birds, but does anyone have recommendations for a good hand held GPS and possibly lake mapping hand held unit? Thanks!
