New to Plastics
« on: Jan 24, 2012, 01:40 PM »
I mainly will catch perch on the jigging rod. Any suggestions for plastics I should buy? I've always used live bait. I hear some guys say plastics can outfish live bait. Typically find minnows and tiny grubs in the stomachs of perch I catch.

Check out "Favorite Palstics" a few post down. I always like little atom nuggies. I also tried some Whips and did well with them for perch and sunnies this week end. I used motor oil with a gold disco ball jig. A flasher and tungston jigs make a huge difference when fishing plastic. I always seem to do as well or better with plastics as the people around me using bait. I always suggest trying them for the first time when the fish are biting well on bait so you get confidence in them. I use very little live bait now.

I just got the sampler pack of whips and we out yesterday, I out fished everyone in our group of 4 put together! I started out using meal worms and wax worms and then I switched over and it was out fishing everything including perch eyes. I'm glad I started getting into plastics for ice fishing. These are the first I have tried with good success. I also tried the northland impulse in a few different shapes and the grub shaped design worked as well as a wax worm but the tails on these whips are full of action

Plastics are a great way to fish...I use them for Panfish a lot, with GREAT success ;)
The market is full of them now and they all work well.
I live in Central NY and we have a guy (friend) that lives in the Finger Lakes Region, that makes a wide variety of them. He started years ago by pounding his camera lens into the muck and weeds, then proceeded to duplicate what he found into plastic molds.
Maki Plastics is the name of his stuff. I don't think I am advertising, but they work well ;)
