fishing valpo or pine lake
« on: Jan 23, 2012, 07:18 PM »
i driving up this way to fish sunday, hopefully. i will be alone or maybe a friend if i can talk him into going. just wondering if anyone from here will be on the valpo chain or nearby pine, stone, clear lakes. it would be nice to put some faces to the names. and it would also be helpful to know what the ice is on these lakes by that time.  im 3 hours south of portage. thanks

right now it's hard to say with the rain and warm up they are predicting at the end of the week. Hopefully there will be some ice to fish.

No Rain in the forcast and overnight temps still look to be below freezing for the week so I am guessing that the ice should hold through the week and into the weekend but always take precautions, go with a partner or group and stay spread out while checking conditions.  It seems like most of the lakes faired well through the rain on Sunday, which actually help with getting rid of the snow and allowing the soft stuff to freeze back up.  Not sure where I am going yet but will be out somewhere after a walk through the Hammond sport show.  If you do not have anyone to fish with shoot me a PM on Saturday.

Just drove by Pine and say 2 guys out there. Hearing the ice is good but looking at the forecast im not sure about this weekend. I was going to go tonight and buy a new flasher but not sure if i wanna spend the money if i cant get onto Pine this weekend! Just not a good winter for the ice. On another note, if the ice is good Saturday i will be out there all day!

after today's weather and tomorrows forecast definitely don't think we will be able to get onto Pine? Haven't check it since last weekend but cant imagine the ice is holding up.

There were a few of us on Clear today. 4-5 in of ice in every hole. Had to stretch your legs not to get the feet wet to get on the ice.

I was on Pine today. Ice was 4-5 in. Shore was thin behind Gracies. Going back out tomorrow, Sunday real early.
