thoughts/suggestions on modifications
« on: Jan 14, 2012, 06:57 PM »
Since I cant seem to get out local to get on ice - I ended  up making some modification/tweaks to a few of my ice items ...mainly wanted to sure up my rods and tip up storage/transportation ...all this stuff I had around my house- I used the heavy duty rod tubing that rods are shipped ... had a few laying around in the garage from a few purchases in the last year ....  thanks for taking a look and am always open for suggestion to make it better -  mainly wanted to throw the idea out to maybe help others or to see if anyone might see any big flaws with my creations ...

Rod/reel:

Already had the soft paded bag for my rods/reels and have been afraid the tips or rods would get broke in transit and or in the sled ....

used the 2.5 diameter tubing, slit a seam cut to get the rods in and out easy and velcro adhesive strips to secure the tubing to the bag -

not going to win any beauty contest but it did seem to work. The key will to always strap in the reel base - once I do that it really secures things down -

 tip ups:

I use to have them in a large heavy duty bag - the bag is suppose to tansport wood from in and out of the house - Found it on clearance at meijers ($.99) ... I have been afraid crap thrown in the sled might break them plus that they would all get tangled together in the bag ...I saw the pvc tubing style to seperate them ...didnt want to drop the 11 bucks on PVC so once again I looked into the garage and found 2 large heavy duty cardboard tubings (4in diameter) - the tip ups seem to slide in/out nice and easy but not easy enough to slide out on their own ....My plan is to keep them horizontal in the bag - so I can be mobile with just the tips ups if I choose.

I know its not the pretties - but the price was right - My biggest concern is how the tubing will last with moisture - figure it should be allright as long as I dont get it filled with snow or put away items extremly wet - time will tell.

Looks like a good idea, Nanner.  If the cardboard doesn't hold up, keep in mind that PVC pipe is really cheap to buy.

Politicians and diapers need to be changed for the same reason

How about the swimming pool noodles. Soft and flexible but not enough to let a rod break. Also very light weight.
Lets go get em
