Girlfriend's First Ice Fishing Trip (x-post from VT)
« on: Jan 08, 2012, 08:48 PM »
Posted in the VT board by mistake, so here it is...

Took my girlfriend out for some hardwater action this weekend, she'd never been before and she had a blast! We got into the perch real good, solid action all day. I pulled up a decent pickerel on a tip-up and she said she wanted the next big fish. We had another flag pop off about half an hour later and she got her first pike! ;D Not a monster but big enough to keep and she wants to make fish cakes with it. Says she'll definitely be going again with me. She even out fished me for half the day today!

Her pike

My pickerel

It was a lot of fun, no record breaking catches but the weather was nice and we got to fish out of the shanty the second day, she even cooked me lunch on the ice ;D

She looks like a keeper to me. Not to many of the nice ones left. I caught mine almost 30 years ago I did the taxodermy work on her myself. I didn't think it would be proper to send her out to be mounted.  Of course she thinks a professional might have done a better job.
Just my 2 cents.. keep it or spend it up to you

I love to see the gals out there! Too many men dont seem to want their women out w/ them, or they are w/ gals who have no interest in the outdoors, I never quite understood that myself. Good for you! :) Glad to see some ice, hoping we get some here sooner then later!!

Girlfriends who ice fish rock!!! My girlfriend is addicted also and she has definitely felt my pain with poor ice conditions this year! Her solution....a 4 day trip to Lake of the Woods, Minnesota the first week of March!!! HER TREAT!!

It's a fine line between fishing & sitting on the ice like an idiot

she liked it enough that she wants to go out Friday night for walleyes instead of partying with her friends! she doesn't clean the fish yet but I've got her to cook them. only thing is she's torn between spending her tax return on a flip over or a deer rifle. i think one of the best parts about having a girlfriend/wife interested in the outdoors is that they know what to expect in the areas of time together and such, like I'm going to hit the lake or woods on some down right nasty days she's not going to want to be out in and she's fine with it as long as I'm home at night. definitely a good thing IMO
