i will admit that in the past i have left a couple of dinks on the ice cause they were not releasable because of damage and have gotten away aways and had eagles and crows come in and scavange on them so where you have a eagle population i don't think that a few fish left on the ice over the season will destroy the population or do undo environemental destruction . if i'm not going to eat a dink that was killed because of gill damage isn't it better that some starving critter gets it than the compost pile , i'd rather feed an eagle than my garden!
No doubt that some scavenger will pick the eys out of a dink left on the ice -- and maybe fly away with the whole carcass. No dout that some dinks swallow the hook and that doesnt dammage the fishery. Leaving them on the ice doesnt do undo environmental destruction ----- you are correct in all of this.
But what some of the guys are saying is that leaving them on the ice makes the fishermen look like slobs and they are also correct.
I throw my carcasses in the garden, and thats where I throw the occasional dead dink, too. I dont want you to think I am some kind of high and mighty SOB, though. To prove it I will confess to leaving a cigar butt on the ice today along with a little tobaco spit
