I agree, since Henrys is now closed has anyone been up to fish Island Park yet.  Planning on taking a sled and the house up some time next week and would like to get some info before I make the trip.

I was dropping off some flyers for that NAIFC event at Lakeside and saw some buddies fishin so I payed them a visit. They said it was slow and so did the other group out there. My friends were sitting over 20 ft of water and fishing at about ten  and off the bottom. They were hitting around 10 to 8ft. Would have liked to been in shallower water, but that other group was in about 10 ft and like i said before their report was "slow". Could hardly get any one of 'em to say a word but I believe it. Anyone try the other end?

Well, guess we will just try it out tomorrow and see how it goes. Sometimes even a slow day fishing is still better than the alternative!   Where is the access for the other end even at? I am not too familiar with anything up there other than the dam.

The other end is the West End and Trudes Bay and the only way to get there is by snowmachine . If you unload at the Dam it is 7 miles to Trudes and it is 6 miles from Lake Side Lodge . If you fish by the Dam and want Trout fish Shallow . Start in 5 ' to 10 ' of water and work your way out into deeper water . I won't be there this weekend but will the next one and will report when I get back . I have a snowmachine , but don't dare ride out that far by myself in case of a brake down that would be a very long walk back . Curt G.

For those of you that have been up there lately, how is the fishing? Hoping to get out somewhere this weekend and I am wondering how anyone has done on I.P.  How thick is the ice now? Thanks.

Was up there last Saturday morning with my wife's 80 year old grandad.  We didn't get up there very early, maybe 8:30ish and we fished just out from the boat ramp there before you drive up to the dam.  This was my first time there so I had no idea where to go.  There were about 6 other groups fishing this area.  We fished in about 20 or 25 feet of water, I think we were too deep.  Some guys closer up in had a Marcum or something and said it was 16 feet where they were.  They were catching quite a few but mostly just little ones.  We got 4 10 or 12 inch rainbows up right away, within 20 minutes of fishing, then it died for about an hour, got a couple more hits and then that was it.  We left about 11:30 and a lot of others were leaving also.  The ice where we were was a good 14 inches or better.  There is a fair amount of snow on the ice, wish I had taken a shovel.  And it's supposed to snow up there a little through the week.  I really wished we had gone down by the dam, but-you live you learn, right?  I would actually like to go back up this week and hit a different spot and try and get into some better fish.  Someone else told me the early bite is the only bite at Island Park!

I will be up there on Saturday , at the same place you were . Taking 6 grandkids for a day of fishing . I have not fished IP yet this year because Henry's was open so long . I have my best luck in shallow water . Start in about 5' and work my way out . If you see my bunch out there come by and say hi . Curt G.

I was at the dam sat. had a bunch of kin come up from Utah we had 40 holes . Had minnows/marshmallows and nightcrawlers wax worms/ corn/sucker meat/ castmasters/ doodle bugs/marabou jig gs. We try ed close in and at 60' and fished from9a.m. till3.30 and cough 2 10" ugly planters. It was also real slush if you went west or north from the dam5" of water under thin snow crust then 12 to 16" of good ice. Monday went to A.F. 2guys got 3 5 #plus pounds much better ice but cleats are a must!!!!

Yeah, thanks for the tip on shallow water, I don't know why I thought that 25 feet would be ok.  I should have just drilled one hole and checked it before we got everything set up.  But you know, it was still an ok time fishing.  I don't know if I am going Friday or Saturday this week, if I notice ya I will stop by and say hello!

That makes sense, I saw the big group out there when we drove up by the dam.  I noticed some standing slush right up by the dam, and thank goodness did not see anybodys tracks trying to venture out that way.  It certainly seems like I.P. is an elusive beast, we'll try it again this weekend though!

Groundtrac How was the ice where you were . I don't want to take a bunch of kids into a slushy mess . That don't sound like fun at all .

We didn't have any slush where we were.  We were fishing where someone else had been and the area was packed down nicely.  I could not speak to an open area where no-one had been, but we had no slush.

Thanks for the info . I don't care if we catch fish . This trip is mostly about the kids getting out . I am going to try and start a fire and do Marshmellows and Hotdogs . Curt G.

Thanks for the info guys. I have only had luck by the dam in 6-10 FOW. In front of the boat ramp I have been skunked too many times. Launching the boat there in the summer, never really have marked very many fish in that area. I will stop and say hi Curt. Always nice to put a name to a face. I will be fishing by the dam though. Good luck to all.
Arnold
